These picture books will increase student engagement during literacy mini-lessons. At a young age children's love for reading begins. By providing them with multiple experiences through literature I can solidify a strong, successful reading journey. In first grade, they are learning to read but I also want them to love it. Creating a lifelong love of reading is the purpose of these picture books. Exposing them to quality text in fiction and nonfiction will not only deepening their reading skills but help students understand how a book can relate to them. Books can open new worlds and experiences without leaving their home or school.
