This is my fourth year teaching, and, since day ONE, I have made it a goal to make my classroom library inviting and comfortable. This school year my goal is to add more biographies and historical fiction books. In addition, I want to purchase chairs as a seating option for my students.
This is my first year teaching biographies during Readers Workshop. This is nerve-racking because my library is VERY limited in this genre. For this reason, I am searching everywhere to prepare for this upcoming school year. I want to make sure I have a lot of biography books in my classroom library. Historical fiction books are limited, and I hope to increase this genre in my classroom as well.
Regarding seating, I want to continue providing inviting seating areas for my students. Last year, my students loved grabbing one of my library pillows to read comfortably. Moreover, I had a bean bag chair that only lasted a year since they LOVED using it during reading time! I am hoping to make things more exciting if I add chairs as a seating option. We need flexible seating and books for reading.
