In 1st grade, our young learners develop their phonics skills and begin building a love of reading. By adding two iPads to the four I already have in my Reno, NV classroom my students will have greater access to engaging phonics practice, fiction and non-fiction books, all while learning how to use technology in a safe, meaningful way. Since August 2020, we have had to develop creative solutions to allow for our students to use individual supplies instead of sharing materials. With four headphones and two more iPads, more of my students will be able to access reading apps to advance their phonics and reading skills.
Let's make iPad time meaningful reading time! Students love their independent reading time, and adding iPads to a reading center will make this daily activity even more exciting. Nevada Academic Content Standards addressed by using iPads to support literacy and foundational skills are NVACS RL 1, RI 1, RF 1.2, RF 1.3, RF1.4.
I will provide my students with specific reading and phonics apps with activities and texts differentiated to meet their needs to enjoy during their independent reading time. These same apps can be used at home to further engage students in their reading. So, whether students are practicing their short and long vowel sounds, listening to a story about a favorite character, or reading a chapter book, these iPads will help to build a love of literacy. Your support is greatly appreciated!
