We are always told that we are preparing students with 21st century skills, which includes collaboration and teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, and more. Technology is on that list. Unfortunately, technology resources are limited at our school and those that we have are outdated, broken, or already in use. I want to provide my students with opportunities in the classroom, on our time, to learn: how to navigate a computer, type, publish written work, save work, collaborate on Google Drive, create slides, add slides, as well as access academic games. People may utter the words, "they're six, they can't do it." That's incorrect. They need the resources, instruction and time to practice how to utilize a tool that will be beneficial for them in their academic and future careers. It will take their learning to a new level! The possibilities are endless when it comes to technology, and all I want is to give my students the chance to learn how to use it to its full potential. Technology is all around us and our students are not afraid to use it, fail at it, and try it again. They will be able to take skills they have learned, i.e. navigating Google Drive, and help family members at home with assignments they have. The resources that I am asking for will be used to enhance their learning in all academic areas, as well as allow them to gain the knowledge and experience to apply it to other areas in the future.
