Where do you like to read, write and work with colleagues? We learn best when we choose a work-station that best suits us, as well as, the activity.
Flexible seating is the ability for students to choose where they sit and what type of seating they use. Flexible seating will empower students to choose seats where they will learn best. To optimize student learning and choice, I would like to provide my students with a variety of seating options to support each of their unique bodily-spatial and kinesthetic needs.
Our classroom needs balance balls, bean bags and lap trays to provide student centered flexible seating options. Learning spaces such as these are designed to support learning that is self-directed, independent, interdependent, authentically personalized and differentiated, learning that is active rather than passive, and student-driven.
