One area some of my students struggle in is being able to sit still long enough to focus and learn. Some have a really hard time compared to others. They crawl around the carpet, walk around tables, spin in class, and crawl underneath the desks instead of working on assignments or listening during group time. I borrowed some wobble chairs and wiggle seats from my colleagues and it has helped my active students sit for longer periods of time. They are also able to focus more during lessons. By using flexible seating, it would give my movers and shakers the opportunity to still move around in their spot but learn at the same time. It also helps students choose to sit where they feel the most comfortable. When they feel comfortable, they are better able to focus during lessons and become active participants in their own learning.
