Kindergarten students love to read and listen to stories on CD.
Listening to reading provides a model of fluid reading, teaches new vocabulary and skills, exposes students to text above their reading level to challenge their comprehension, and allows the story to truly come alive. My students will use the listening library during Daily 5 time.
They will be able to independently choose a book and "lose themselves in a good book." They will not only hear familiar stories but will also learn new skills from non-fiction texts.
This will help them become better readers by making reading fun and engaging.
