Most inner city students don't get the opportunity to take advanced level electives. In this semester-long course, about 25 students who show strength in 7th & 8th grade math are selected to participate in an advanced level math course featuring logical-thought building activities and math competitions. The school is located in a low income, urban area in California. This middle school is intentionally small to better address the needs of each student. Our academic progress on state standardized tests is low so we incorporate ways for students to improve or excel in their academic work and assessments, like this class.
