This year I want to focus on having my students understand mathematical concepts by really connecting with the material. One of the things that will help them are the geometric shapes. We do volume, surface area, and cross sections and having these tools will help the students visualize each piece of the geometric figures. Another one of my goals this year is to have students not only learn geometric principles and theorems but to understand how they work. With compasses, students can construct shapes and prove theorems based on what they have created.
I want my students to understand that making mistakes is normal in math and not be afraid of it. This is where the whiteboards come in. Not only can they practice their budding skills with this tool, but I will be able to see how they are understanding the concept in a more efficient way, helping students one on one or reteaching a certain topic. The whiteboards will provide a formative assessment tool for me in the classroom so I can help all students learn and connect with the material.
