This kid-inspired project came about when I began doing active brain breaks in class. Students then asked if it would be possible to stand and move during instruction and while working. Students want more than a chair! They researched alternative seating and choose the options they felt would be comfortable, while allowing them to move and stay actively engaged.
Benefits include burning more calories, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength, and overall posture. Research shows that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
