Fifth grade Social Studies standards cover the United States History from 1492 to 1850. This vast time range is difficult to get through in one school year. My plan is to integrate the teaching of Social Studies through the English Language Arts curriculum. In order to do this effectively I am asking for support in supplying my fifth graders with novels (Rush Revere and the First Patriots: Time-Travel Adventures With Exceptional Americans) that address the social studies content. The novels will allow us to us to meet both ELA and Social Studies standards at once in an engaging manner. Students will obtain important foundational learning in English class before expanding upon this knowledge in the immersed Spanish class.
