We are starting project-based science units of study this year in my first grade class. About 90% of my students are English language learners and need a lot of visual aides to support their learning. Scholastic Science magazines provide visual photographs in color along with many other activities that go with them.
Not only do they provide science content, but they hit many of our Common Core ELA standards as well. Students will be leaning many important strategies for reading and comprehension as well as learning about real world events through a nonfiction science-based text. My students have never been exposed to Scholastic Science News, and I know that this experience is something that they will love! It will also be extremely beneficial in supporting our science units of study.
Unfortunately, being a new teacher I do not have the money to spend out of my own pocket to purchase these magazines for my students and would greatly appreciate any help that I can receive. Thank you so much for supporting my class!
