At our school, recess seems to be the ultimate escape for our kids. They can't wait for the recess bell to ring. Students sprint out of the classroom for the chance to play soccer, football, or tag. There are however some students that are not as motivated at the idea of recess. These are the students that stay in class and don't want to play because it's too hot or too tired. I always wondered, "How can I motivate these students to Get Up and Go!?". Recently, I have had students come up to me and show me how smart watches can track their physical activity. This gave me an idea. Maybe if I have the students that don't participate in recess wear the watches, I can show them their movement throughout a day. These students will become more aware of their movement and physical activity and maybe this will spark them to do a little bit more each day. Then I can get the whole class involved and then everyone can have a turn at wearing these watches. The agility ladders and cones will be used for a training center in our recess area. This training area will be set up and the students can run through the ladders, a modern day version of hop scotch. My ultimate goal is to have the students that didn't participate in recess at the beginning of this project, be able to motivate other students in our grade level to become a little bit more active.
