I am requesting a Water Garden aquarium to help my students understand about the life cycle of plants and animals, and the connection that ties them together. The Water Garden uses aquaponics, which is system that combines raising fish and growing plants together.
My students will gain a working experience while growing the plants alongside with raising a fish, which is more meaningful and memorable than just seeing pictures and videos. Using a hands-on approach, students can learn through discovery. Although this is initially intended for science, the Water Garden will provide opportunities for literacy and math (for example; writing about the betta fish, reading facts about aquaponics, measuring growth, etc.)
