In second grade, we spend a good amount of time gathered at the carpet. Math instruction takes place on the carpet as students bring their personal white boards to participate in learning. When introducing new activities or lessons, I have my kiddos come to the gathering place.
When we need to discuss major topics such as being respectful or responsible, we meet at the carpet. When students need extra help, I have them meet in a small group with me at the carpet. Before recess, lunch, and the end of the day, we gather at the carpet before dismissal. It is a necessity in our classroom and my kids deserve a nice place to come together!
