These Chromebooks will be used for elementary library classes. During library time, our young students are introduced to educational databases used for research and learning, our school's E-book collection, Internet safety, finding reliable sources, the Google Suite, and, this year, how to request library books since students are not allowed to browse the old-fashioned way. When Covid-19 forced schools to close last spring, our young students were definitely not prepared for the abrupt transition to Google Classroom. Library class is the perfect opportunity to improve technology skills so our students are better prepared. This pandemic has forced us to look at the lack of technology at the elementary level. In previous years, these students could use the computer labs during library class, but with our district's plan to stop the spread of the virus, that's an impossibility. In addition, the few devices that the elementary teachers shared are currently being used by our remote learners. While the Chromebooks will be vital during the pandemic, they will continue to be an invaluable resource used at the K-4 level to increase our students' exposure to technology.
