Students' understanding of independence, responsibility, and community will allow them to appreciate the hard work, focus, and organization that goes into a group effort.
"Even the smallest act of kindness, has the potential to turn a life around. " As the team garden begins to flourish, students are able to "pay it forward" with their grown flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
This project also integrates numerous subject areas, not only American History (Colonial America and Westward Expansion), Literature/Writing (Mentor texts about life lessons and farming), but it also focuses on Science (Photosynthesis and the Life Cycle).
The resources that I requested will allow the project to fully take shape. The two greenhouses will provide the necessary shelter and proper weather that the plants need to thrive. The rest of the resources are the seeds, soil, labels, and pots themselves. These are required to create a basic garden. The folding tables are where the pots and seeds will be located.
Fifth graders will gain the insight into others who may be less fortunate than they are and what these middle-schoolers can do to make a difference in someone else's life.
