The piney smell of a new pack of pencils, the bright colors of a fresh box of crayons and the crisp sound of the pages of a notebook. All these bring back fond memories of the first days of school.
Unfortunately, most of my students never experience this. Most of them come to school with the bare minimum and these supplies deplete within a few weeks and are never replaced.
The notebooks, book bags, pencils and pencil sharpener will give my students the necessary tools for practicing writing, reading and listening skills that are the foundation of reading.
The hear myself sound phones are used by students when they are reading to themselves. The phones allow students to actually focus in on the sound of their own voices while they read. In doing so, it increases their fluency which leads to greater comprehension.
The table-top easel allow a way for me to model writing on the baseline so that students at this age learn the fundamentals of letter formation, spacing of words, correct alignment of words and directionality.
At this tender age students need lots of modeling to ensure that they develop the correct foundation in reading and writing, so they can build upon that foundation and become life long learners. Help me put these tools into the tiny hands!
