Success happens in my classroom, but can you imagine how much higher that could be if they were provided the appropriate resources? My school is one, like so many, that is not adequately funded. The Life Skills Support classroom has been up and running for years in our school. However, it has limited resources and funding available to us. Most of the items are left over from the previous teacher, donated items from friends and family, and items I purchased throughout the past 3 year. Now that I have been able to get the basics for our classroom, it’s time to focus on technology. We have 2 computers in the classroom, yet one is non-functional and the other only partly functional. Due to the students fine motor and gross motor limitations they are unable to manipulate the mouse and the keyboard. Therefore, a touch screen tablet would allow them to enjoy using technology independently while learning and not being frustrated due to their disabilities.
My students will use the Kindle Fires in a classroom setting where all students can have access to technology. I like to use programs such as Lexia, Aimsweb, and reading and math apps. We will use the Kindles to help support those students who need extra help in reading and math through a different mode of learning and also support students in advancing in their learning.
Kindles will allow us to explore the internet, use apps to engage our minds and allow us to use them freely without limitations due to our disabilities!
