Listening centers in elementary school classrooms are essential to literacy and fluency. Listening centers, however, are expensive and therefore the school provides out-of-date equipment.
I would like to provide this essential element to my kindergarten class while also providing a comfortable setting for the students. To do this, I am asking for tablets to download audio and Kindle books onto. In order to make this center more comfortable, I would like to add bean bag chairs to make it an inviting space for the students. I am asking for a small table top easel for this center as well for vocabulary words that students may need to know in order to listen to the stories. Finally, I ask for two exercise balls and a small table. When a student is in a center, I need to hold them accountable for their learning. I need them to write about their experience with the book, and keeping with the comfortable theme, the exercise balls would allow the students to be comfortable while also getting some energy out.
Often times students in a low income area are not provided with the materials they need, especially with extra technology. I am a firm believer in the use of technology in schools and need help providing this for my students. I also think it is important for my students to feel comfortable in their classrooms, which is why I am asking for flexible seating.
