Stay-N-Play balance balls will help my students stay active during the day by allowing them to move and wiggle while staying focused and engaged in differentiated learning tasks. Hearing students ask, "Can I sit on your Balance Ball, it helps me work better," motivates me to make engaging learning a reality. I want to focus on student need and eliminate the traditional/stable chairs in my classroom in order to replace them with these materials. Ultimately I want to give my students more of an individualized choice as to where they find they learn best.
Bouncy balls allow students to bounce to release kinesthetic energy, enabling students to release tension to relieve their anxiety, hyperactivity or frustration. Students feel empowered when they feel a sense of belonging and choice in their environment. Coming from a high poverty community environment and school setting, these students need to be able to access materials in order to make this demonstration of learning a reality. With a diverse population of Deaf and Hearing students, a pencil sharpener, that visually displays they their pencil is sharpened by a blue light and not just by sound, enables all students to have their academic needs met at the basic level. I love giving these students an opportunity to keep their bodies busy, and meet their academic and individualized needs, while they are learning and staying engaged!
