The materials will be used to make edible products that the students can taste and share with other classmates and with their families. Many of our students and their families do not have the resources to get healthy, quality food. We will use burners to heat up some of the liquids we will need to create our foods. We are also going to use measuring tools to learn the differences between the American system of measurement and the metric system. We will be using some of the ingredients in several different American dishes and learn their English words and apply them in real sentences so we can strengthen our language skills.
Our goal is to explore, make and sample American foods by studying the connections in history and geography and using it as a way to acquire English.
Without this opportunity, many of our students would not have the opportunity for exposure as going out to eat at local restaurants is often expensive and a challenge for many of our immigrant families.
