The materials in my project will help provide an engaging and playful classroom unit that supports numerous academic, fine motor and social emotional goals. By starting with dramatic play props and materials that are familiar and interesting to children, we can build on their engagement, attention span and play schemes. Having motivating learning activities and toys also increase social and communication skills as well as the ability to practice pre-school academic skills.
These materials provide a multitude of hands-on opportunities to expand play schemes, practice pre-school academic concepts and begin to build positive relationships with others.
Through engaging and hands-on "Bakery and Ice Cream materials", the students will be excited to participate in classroom activities and will build on the skills necessary to enter Kindergarten.
The different bakery and ice cream props will help support the students learn about colors, counting, matching, and patterning. Engaged with the materials, teachers will help teach and model friendship skills including; sharing, problem-solving, trading and working together. Language is supported by labeling, imitating and modeling ways to express their wants and needs. We will use the aprons in our learning center after a group tie-dying activity, and use the laminating sheets to make up store menus and signs for the store!
