I teach 5th grade Spanish Dual Immersion at a fantastic school. Our school district digitally converted, so all of students' literacy materials are only available to us via iPads -all of which is great! However, I work at a low-income school; so for those that don't have WiFi at home or have connectivity issues (which is common), accessing quality, grade-level literature in Spanish is not possible. While I have a very small classroom library, it mostly consists of easier, primary-level picture books.
What I would love is a variety of reading materials that would appeal to 5th graders, and that falls within the range of their reading levels. These Spanish-language magazines would provide just that -students would have regular, current literature outside of their curriculum to enjoy. Being allowed to take these home would boost their literacy skills, involve families, and foster their love of reading!
