AP Biology is an introductory college-level biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics like evolution, energetic, information storage, and transfer, and system interactions. Exposure to rigorous, inquiry-based labs in this course is important to help students learn to work independently and collaboratively, incorporate and critique the published work of others in their own inquiries, use scientific reasoning and appropriate laboratory techniques to define and solve problems, and draw and evaluate conclusions based on quantitative evidence.
While reading about science, using computer simulations, and observing teacher demonstrations may be valuable, they are not a substitute for laboratory investigations led by student curiosity. These lab supplies will allow students to apply their learning of a concept and the experimental design process to develop their own experiments that answer their own questions.
About my class
