While outside for recess there are always students who are wandering around looking for something to do. Last year after talking with them I found that this was due in large part to "there is nothing to do". After brainstorming a list of what they would like to do I was able to piece together an itemized list of what they wanted.
The items I am requesting are of high interest and will encourage my 4th graders to be active at recess.
The soccer balls can be used with students who want to play a game or work on skills. The footballs and volleyballs too can be used in small groups! The chalk will encourage students to be creative. The jump ropes will encourage kids to get their bodies moving and challenge each other to contests, which they said they love doing. I look forward to seeing the students become active again on the playground!
In addition to playground materials, I also requested some healthy snacks to help replenish their bodies and keep their minds sharp and ready to learn. Many students comment how sometimes all they can find at home are chips and cookies. I would love to encourage healthy eating habits as this is something my kids have mentioned is a goal of theirs.
