Often students come into my classroom without an understanding of fractions. The math tools will be used daily to reinforce and initiate math concepts involving fractions. Students are able to understand math more deeply when they begin learning concepts using math tools. As the students develop concrete understandings of math they are able to move onto more abstract thinking. My students will use the math tools as the building blocks necessary to understanding fractions. In third grade students dig into the concepts associated with fractions. The math tools will help students grasp fraction concepts on a concrete level. The students will be able to form number lines and compare fractions using the fraction towers.
