With these kits my engineering students will be able to learn and apply the principles of robotics, engineering, and programming. The books requested have step by step instructions on how to build LEGO robots using the kits, and they also teach how to program the robots using switch statements, loops, variables, and sensor data.
My students will first get grounded in the essential skills of building and programming robots and then be challenged to create their own robots to solve meaningful problems. The challenges begin as simple as following a line and traversing a maze but then increase in difficulty. such as modeling animal movement and assembly line machines.
The students in this class have a solid understanding of physics but little experience in applied science and real world problem solving. This equipment will give them some real hardware to experiment with, and with LEGO robotics the learning curve is not so steep as to be an obstacle.
