Geometry is a very notes-heavy discipline of math. Over the past quarter, my students have learned countless definitions, postulates, and theorems and are expected to remember them to apply to lessons throughout the year; these definitions are consistently referred to when they draft proofs.
Unfortunately, many of students did not have the means or resources to buy basic school supplies to help ensure they were prepared to be successful for every day learning. Knowing this, in the past, I had asked students to bring in a notebook only, and we would do the best we could to create interactive notebooks with foldable, graphic organizers, sorting activities, and reflections. However, this led to countless loose, damaged, and torn papers. Students weren't able to access the information they needed in an efficient manner. When this occurred, students would quickly become disengaged and were at a disadvantage right off the bat by no fault of their own.
With this project, my hope is to provide the accommodations for each student I teach to be successful in the classroom. Furthermore, by keeping up with the interactive binders, they will develop key organizational skills that they can use throughout high school and in college. Each student will receive a binder that will include dividers and a 2-pocket folder for homework. They can use this as a reference guide throughout the year for their geometry studies.
