Encouraging students to read is sometimes a difficult task. In this world of instant gratification, it is hard to get students to attend to a task for a sustained period of time. My smarties need mini flashlights to share with their kindergarten reading buddies to partner read in the dark! We will use the flashlights and whisper phones throughout the week during our independent reading time. Then, on Fridays we will spend our special ¨dark reading¨ time with our kindergarten buddies. By using flashlights, I hope to see an increase in the students´ independent reading focus and more students on task. I will measure this through their formal reading assessment to see if it is a successful project.
