A few, if any of my students or the students at my school have heard of the sport of lacrosse. I myself am not very familiar with the sport, so we will be learning together! Each teacher at my school is required to provide our students with PE minutes beyond what they receive from the PE teacher. The lacrosse equipment will allow the students to learn a new sport while they are fulfilling the extra minutes required by my school district. My desire is that several students get hooked on the sport and perhaps find opportunities beyond elementary school to play and possibly earn scholarships for college. The lacrosse equipment will not only be used by the 75, 5th grade students at my school but also the 75, 4th grade students because we have a 4th/5th grade combination class that gets the two grades together for combined activities. The opportunity to learn a new activity will definitely add to my students' life experiences.
