Our students need contemporary novels that focus on topics under the "science and ethics" umbrella. Our students will use these materials to explore the question, "Just because we can, does that mean we should?" They will be reading the novels and engaging in deep discussions in small groups or partners, and then sharing with the entire class some of their most intriguing findings. It is of the utmost importance that we have a range of novels for our students to choose from so that we can accommodate all interests and offer all of our students something they are motivated to read.
Your generous donation to our project will improve our 8th grade literacy class by allowing us to offer exciting, contemporary literature for our young readers, like Pop, Legend, and My Sister's Keeper. This will be especially motivating for our resistant readers! It will really help change our students' lives for the better, both by increasing their awareness of the world and by turning "disinterested" readers into engaged ones. They will love this unit and and be excited to read what we have to offer them!
