Every student has their own unique learning style. As teachers we need to not only differentiate the curriculum, but also the classroom seating options to meet the learning needs of our students.
Flexible seating is proven to increase student learning in the classroom.
At our school students are encouraged to choose flexible seating options that allow them to focus and learn in the classroom setting. Students have a variety of needs and each classroom needs to provide flexible seating options to meet the needs of the students. Some students require movement in order to focus. In the past bouncy bands and balance boards have proven to help students focus for longer periods of time. Students report that they enjoy having the ability to move without being a distraction to others. Students with sensory needs find the balance ball and squishy cushions help them focus and meets their sensory needs. Students who like to sit at their desk, but do not like traditional chairs enjoy the wobble seats.
Our goal is to have a variety of flexible seating options to meet the learning needs of all of the students in our school.
