When students who live in a middle to upper class community go to school, they will learn in spite of the supplies the teacher has or the way the teacher teaches. Students from poverty stricken areas learn because of the exposure and thoughtfulness from a teacher who wants so badly to see her students grow and succeed. My students will grow so much just getting to look at the different variety of texts, let alone learning to love books and actually enjoy reading.
I gave this project the title of "Help These Leaders Turn Into Readers" because I truly believe that every single one of my students will go fourth and lead in our community. So many of them have high aspirations for their futures. I have several future doctors, police officers and teachers in my class this year. If I can help them in the process of reading with a purpose, I will be getting them one more step closer to achieving those dreams.
