My students love to work together and cherish any opportunity to be collaborative in their thinking. A whiteboard kidney table allows them to show their thinking on the surface while giving them a workspace that encourages them to communicate and work together. Right now, my classroom has an extremely large sized kidney table- which allows only a narrow space for movement due to the other necessary furniture in the room. The large size of the current table also impedes in student discussion because the students sitting on either end find it difficult to hear and see across the table.
I consider myself a successful educator if I can create opportunities for my students to show and explain their thinking to others. Jumbo models will aid them in making their thinking visible. A large magnetic ten-frame helps both the students and me to show math strategies to larger groups of students. Double dice will allow students to engage in games and centers that will push their learning in a fun and interactive way. I plan to use them to create math games for them to practice their addition and subtraction fluency.
