Students in my classroom are in 6th-8th grade, but they really struggle with reading. I want to create a fun read-aloud experience (I may do most of the reading) that will engage my students and allow them to experience chapter books that are somewhat above their reading level but more closely aligned to their maturity level.
The books in my project are books that have been made into movies, so they are part of the students' pop culture awareness (high interest!), and the students can enjoy watching the movie as an incentive when we have finished reading the book.
Currently my classroom has no book sets, and there is no budget for books or materials. I am relying on the generosity of donors to help make my classroom a better experience for my students.
