I think implementing literature circles will be a good way to differentiate my curriculum since I have such a wide variety of learners all within the same classroom. The novels all have different levels of vocabulary, vary in length and differ in their delivery. My students will be able to a choose a book that suits their learning needs and preferences without compromising the chance to have whole class learning since the themes are similar.
You can help pop my students' bubble of "reality" they live in by helping to donate some texts that will really pull at their heartstrings and teach them love, tolerance and acceptance! I want to expose my students to a wide variety of people and circumstances prior to them going off to college. These books will allow my students an opportunity to see life through a variety of lenses. Furthermore, my students will be able to exercise freedom of choice since I will be able to offer literature circles to them. This is something I haven't been able to do this past school year due to a lack of resources.
Lastly, my classroom is in great need of the book case and book ends to complete our classroom library. Currently, my students deal with books falling off the shelf every time they go to grab one because there are no sides to the industrial shelf I currently have my books stored on. In fact, the only thing holding the books in place are four large binder clips which barely keep the books upright. The two shelves I have dedicated to books are currently at capacity and a bookshelf is most certainly in order.
