I believe your environment affects how you learn. The people and things that are around you affect how you are and who you will become. We are all different people and therefore all need different things to support us. As a child I was diagnosed with ADHD and I always struggled with school, but there was always that one class that I did really well in. As an educator I started to recognize patterns in my own education that helped me succeed.
I learned that I listened better when I sat near a window. I learned that I could concentrate better if I was listening to music. I also focused better if I had some kind of fidget to play with (LEGOS, Play-Doh).
I'm in a classroom full of very diverse learners. I believe that all my kids want to learn and are capable of learning. I intend to transform the entire environment of the classroom, beginning with rethinking what the classroom should look like. For this project I will focus on creating diverse seating (ex. high top tables and stool that look out the window) and rugs to create a comfortable place for them.
