My students face challenges with communication. Having access to iPads will be beneficial for learning and communication. I am currently using my personal iPad to work with my students, which does not always work out when working in group settings. It is amazing watching someone with no communication be able to request desired items or be able to communicate that they are hurt and need help. Watching a student who was once frustrated by not being able to request simple needs now being able to communicate needs with a variety of different peers and caregivers without frustration is life changing for everyone involved. Having multiple iPads in the classroom will give everyone a voice and none will have to wait their turn to communicate. My students will also be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning.
Not having iPads in Speech Therapy and not having the school funding to be able to purchase more iPads, limits my students’ ability to learn and communicate to their highest ability.
They have to wait their turn to be able to request wants and needs. Having access to more iPads would promote communication and increase learning in the classroom as well as in the school environment.
