A pencil ready to work keeps the attention of a working 5 year old. Nothing is more distracting than when one says "my pencil doesn't work" and then 19 others go to breaking their points and then I run out of sharpened pencils unless I have blisters on my fingers from sharpening enough pencils for 20 kindergartners. This can be a painful and time consuming task. I have tried many electric pencil sharpeners in the past only to see them eat my money the way they eat the pencils.
My fingers and students will greatly appreciate any help we receive for this project.
