Gelli plates, brayers, and acrylic paints allow artists to create monoprints without a printing press, using materials on hand in any art room. These gel-like plates open up a world of printing for students that they would otherwise never be able to experience.
Students would be introduced to the history of printmaking and its role in our society from early times. Exploring this printing process will provide opportunities for students to consider how the elements of design will come together to create their textured print. Trial and error and experimentation will be key as we develop confidence and skill in using the Gelli plate to create prints. No two prints will be the same! The process will be as important, if not more important than the product itself.
