Literacy centers are a daily activity in my classroom for every student. During literacy centers students are given the opportunity to hear an audio book as they read along. Having iPads as a part of the listening center gives me the ability access more audio books at different levels and with content that is applicable to my students. It also gives me the opportunity to incorporate literacy games to build skills such as letter/sound recognition and sight words.
Having a high population of English language learners leads me to need more visual and musical supports. Technology, such as iPads, and music help me to give my students the greatest opportunity at success in the classroom. My students aren't often read to in English, or at all, so this will help build those language skills and the love of reading.
The cases will help to protect the iPads from the normal wear and tear that can happen in a kindergarten classroom. A set of seven headphones will give a full group of students the ability to share a story. Having the speaker will allow me to play music, such as the phonics songs, and stories for the whole class. Music is an exciting part of education for all kindergarteners, but especially so for my English language learners.
