Students will use clay to practice functional ceramic vessel-making , as well as abstract sculptures and trompe 'leoil. In the spring, we will make and collect the ceramic bowls for the Detroit-area "Empty Bowls" fundraiser for the needy. Students will be encouraged to attend the event and participate in making the bowls.
This is designed, not only to give students the experience of using 3Dimensional materials and form-building but to involve them in community action events that encourage giving back to a community that frequently supports them. This project would support the Detroit community and give them the chance to see their work purchased by patrons.
