This year, I teach all Freshmen, some of whom do not have access to basic technological supplies such as a computer, a printer, or internet. By having supplies such as a printer and access to Chromebooks, student needs can be met within the classroom so they may be successful throughout the school year. Providing these materials within the classroom will also ensure that students will receive the assistance they require from the teacher.
With technology being a large part of Common Core, especially within a subject that focuses on writing, my students will benefit from having access to these materials.
As we are in a very digital age, it is a hinderance to both teacher and student to be without necessary technology. As students forge their academic careers and prep for college. The best I can do as a teacher is to do the most I can to prepare them for college and their later years in high school. The emphasis on technology will not only help them in their coursework in my class, but it will also develop and embed basic computer skills necessary to succeed in high school and education beyond.
