Our world has become very technology-based and children are very interested in the bright colors and sounds that it can provide to help them learn. Most of my students do not have access to technology at home and the only time they do is once a week in our computer lab. My goal is to use the student’s love for technology and the interesting stories that can be read aloud to them to help them become lifelong readers. I would love for all my students even the struggling readers who do not have access to literature and daily read alouds to be able to access this through a technology station during my small reading group time. I plan on having this station be independent while I teach groups during short intervals of time. A station like this would be engaging and appealing so that each child would be reading for the whole rotation. My students need 4 iPod Nanos for listening to books during small group reading.
This project will improve the education of my students by providing them access to technology and opportunities to listen to stories read fluently by English speakers.
It will help them develop a life-long love of reading through the excitement of choosing a new book or hearing a loved favorite.
