In a newly added classroom, I am starting with barely the basics for my 28 third graders. The materials I am requesting through Donors Choose are more than just objects. They will help provide meaningful experiences for my students. We will use the carpet to come together as a learning community, hear and share stories, develop writing and literacy together. The easel will be used for whole and small group mini lessons to help my students build reading, writing, and math skills. With limited access to nonfiction titles, Time for Kids will be a weekly staple to develop Common Core standards in close reading, as well as identifying reading strategies such as main idea and details. With Time for Kids being a current event periodical, I feel students will be able to not only broaden their scope of learning but will be able to make personal connections, which makes learning meaningful and engaging.
