I am fully committed and determined to advocate for students. I believe every student can find a path to their personal success if they are given suitable guidance. In order to accomplish goals, I believe it is important to address the academic barriers through a focus on social and emotional learning. I help students realize their abilities by using person-centered counseling skills to promote personal change and a positive self-concept. However, as a brand new school counselor with a low budget, my room currently doesn't have anything in it to make students WANT to come to the counseling office. With bare walls and just a small desk and chairs, it doesn't feel safe for students to open up and talk about their emotions. It's really important to me that students feel safe and comfortable in a space that is so vulnerable for them. It would also be really helpful to have social-emotional learning books to build a library and help teach kids life skills. Anything will be amazing for my room and I am SO appreciative!!! I can't wait to hopefully transform the space and make kids excited.
