The materials that I am asking for will be used to set up a listening station. The purpose of the listening station is for students to be able to hear a story being read aloud independently to them.
The listening station will allow students to be more aware of what "reading fluency" sounds like. They will hear readers read with expression, pause at commas, or read with excitement. It will also provide practice with hearing sight words and vocabulary words. Students will be able to read those words independently the next time they see them. It will allow them to There are some students that need to hear a story repeated over and over again (as they track the print and follow along) in order for it to have meaning to them. The listening station will give students that extra time needed to comprehend what the story is all about. The listening station will be used to help students in the areas of: tracking print, listening, following along, guided reading, reading comprehension and much more.
The materials that I am requesting will provide opportunities to take charge of their own reading experiences and be able to retell their experiences both orally and in written form. Students will listen to stories. We will discuss the stories. Students will answer and ask questions about the stories to check for comprehension. Students will add new vocabulary to their word wall cards. Students will be given more opportunities to engage in listening and speaking activities.
