The recess and PE equipment are one of the same. Often times, equipment gets taken out for recess and doesn't return or become damaged that it is no longer usable. Students in first grade need to run, jump, skip, and tumble. Having the necessary equipment will help diversify activities, introduce new activities, and plan for needed areas of focus without the constraints of wondering if the equipment is there. The mats will help us emphasize tumbling, rolling, and crawling without student concern of hurting themselves on the hard floor. The various other equipment in the list will help to teach throwing, catching, jumping, and coordination. The need for physical activity and the enjoyment of it needs to begin now for it to continue into tomorrow.
