When funded, my classroom will receive this weekly magazine where we can learn together about non-fiction texts. Incorporating writing with non-fiction text is so much fun, and the students enjoy sharing their opinions about what they've just read with other students.
Last year, my teacher goal was to have non-fiction literature circles by reading Scholastic News, where the students collaboratively learned and shared their thoughts/ideas about the text. Each student had a job: super summarizer, passage predictor, word wizard, artistic artist, discussion director, or creative connector. The students would meet in their groups throughout the week and seek to understand the articles by discussing the topic, theme, text features, photographs, maps, and so much more.
Scholastic News opens the door for my students to express so much creativity! I would be so grateful if we could have this magazine in my classroom again.
Thank you!
